A dedication ceremony to celebrate the opening of SW Legacy High School was held in the auditorium of the new campus on Thursday, August 10, 2017. Nearly 2,000 students will start the 2017-18 school year walking the hallways of the newest campus at Southwest ISD, Southwest Legacy High School. Southwest Legacy will be the first high school built south of Highway 90 from the ground up in 40 years, and home to the district’s STEM academy. It is the second high school for the District.

The school names, mascots, and colors were selected thorough a community input process, and through interactive input from a representative sample of SWISD students. SW Legacy High School will be known as the home of the Titans, and although green will remain as the primary color in its color scheme, and black as an accent color, the secondary color of the school will be gold.

“It feels real good to be part of something brand new, the first, forever first,” said incoming junior, Fernando Martinez. Martinez will be part of the first graduating class of SWLHS.

The name Legacy was chosen to honor the legacy of the pioneers of the district and the area throughout various structures at the new school.
